Psy returned to Seoul Tuesday after a career-altering three-week trip to the United States. One of his first stops? Kyonggi University, where he performed “Gangnam Style” for a wildly appreciative audience. The sound quality of the video is poor and the camera is set up behind Psy and his dancers. But there’s no mistaking the enthusiasm of the crowd, which seems to be reclaiming the now-worldwide pop star as its own. Here’s a better clip from MSN’s Singapore site (the dude who evidently shot the video above appears at 2:25).
During a press conference earlier in the day at the Ramada Hotel in Samsung-dong, Psy fielded questions about his U.S. trip. “I want Americans or other foreigners to see me not just as a strange singer from Korea who does the crazy horse-riding dance,” the JoongAng Ilbo quoted him as saying. “I hope they realize by looking at my concerts that Korean artists are fantastic performers.”
According to the Wall Street Journal, Psy also told reporters that he’s still processing the last few weeks: “Things happening right now are beyond my understanding. I am still bewildered because I never expected this kind of thing to happen to me.”
At the conclusion of the press conference, the singer-rapper literally galloped out of the room doing his horse-riding dance. Psy is clearly loving life.
